The well-being and empowerment of our employees are top priority at Etosha Village. Most of our staff members were unemployed and were recruited at a village nearby. Some have not previously worked while one was totally illiterate, middle aged with very little chance to make an acceptable living. All new recruits were transported to our sister lodge, Sossusvlei Lodge, almost 800km away, to be trained in their various positions. Together with some key staff of Sossusvlei Lodge and Desert Camp they returned to Etosha Village to take up their new employ and move into the newly renovated farm house with new beds and uniforms for them.
Our water recycling affords us the possibility to have our own vegetable garden at Etosha Village. In their free time, some of our staff who enjoys gardening works in the garden and supply the lodge with their own grown herbs and seasonable vegetables.
Every year Etosha Village hosts a Tourism Awareness Day when schools in the region send some of their pupils to us for the day. Here we give them an introduction to the hospitality industry and get them involved in the various departments of the lodge. This event has proven to be tremendously successful over the years and sparks an invaluable interest with the learners and possibly encourages them to consider a career in tourism.
Taleni Africa and Etosha Village supports the "Race for a Smile" which affords many children with cleft palates and cleft lips the opportunity to an operation and most of all - to smile again! Several children are born with cleft lips and cleft palates. It is not only unsightly, but most can-not drink and need tube feeding. Their lives start off at a very bad note. Surgery is required to rectify this and ultimately put a smile on the little faces.
The Namibian organisation Nampharm started this project and annually the company Synergy Seminars organises the fundraiser "Race for a Smile". The race is fun filled and this year it was in the form of a treasure hunt around town. The theme was 'recycling'. The participating teams had brilliant ideas and dressed very 'recycled' which added to the fantastic spirit. Taleni Africa handed accommodation vouchers to the winning team.
Recently we spoiled the Walvisbay Kids Haven Children's Home at Etosha Village to a magnificent experience. Read more here...
We are very proud of the Etosha Village Team for their enthusiasm and participation in giving back to the community.
